Hours after his teammate Kira Lewis declared for the NBA draft, Huntsville native John Petty made the same decision with an announcement on social media.

Petty, a graduate of Mae Jemison High School, was named second-team All-SEC after posting 14.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting 44% from 3-point range. He ranked second in threes made per game (2.9), totals that ranked ninth and 28th in the nation.

He also led Alabama and ranked 11th in the SEC with 6.6 rebounds per game.

There are a lot of unknowns surrounding the NBA draft, and all of sports, due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the current deadline for early entrants to withdraw their names is June 15 at 4 p.m. CT, according to the NBA’s key date schedule.
