Caleb Crutcher signs National Letter of Intent to run track at Jackson State

Caleb Crutcher, an all-everything track and field standout from Hazel Green, signed a National Letter of Intent to run track at Jackson State this fall.

To get to the next level in any sport, you must have a lot of patience, which is of course is a virtue. Recent Hazel Green High School track standout Caleb Crutcher definitely has a lot of it. His 400 and 800 meter times this year were among the top 5 in the state all season long, but he didn't field any offers. But that all changed recently.

Over the 4th of July holiday weekend, Crutcher received interest from Jackson State, Southern and UAH. After doing a lot of praying, the all-region standout decided to head to Mississippi to run for the Tigers of Jackson State.

Crutcher signed his National Letter of Intent Sunday in front of friends and loved ones. This was a long process and he's happy that its over.

"It's feel great. I'm excited now," says Crutcher. "I didn't have a clue where I was going and didn't have a set school until now. I'm excited about representing Jackson State now."

Running track and cross country at Jackson State will allow Caleb Crutcher to enjoy the HBCU experience; something that he's quite familiar with. His dad is an Alabama A&M alumnus while his mom, granddad and several other relatives graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge. Caleb can't wait for his own HBCU experience.

"I get to experience something new," says Crutcher.  "A different HBCU just to learn about their culture. It will push me to be a better athlete. Also the culture at an HBCU, I can grow academically too. I can have a personal connection with my teacher and everything."
