Alabama's week 2 road game at Texas officially set to air on FOX

The 2022 Alabama Crimson Tide at Texas Longhorns football game will be air on FOX54 and other FOX affiliates across the nation.

AUSTIN, Texas — (247sports.com) Alabama’s road game at Texas on Saturday, Sept. 10, will air on FOX, the network announced.

A kick-off time for the highly-anticipated non-conference game has not yet been revealed, but FOX’s premier games are typically set for 11 a.m. CT after its Big Noon Kickoff show.

The 2022 matchup will be the 10th meeting between two of college football's most storied programs and the first since the Crimson Tide defeated the Longhorns in the BCS National Championship Game in Pasadena, Calif., at the conclusion of the 2009 season. It will be the first game of a home-and-home series, with Texas making a return trip to Tuscaloosa in 2023.

"We are pleased and happy to be able to add an opponent the caliber of the University of Texas to our non-conference schedule," said Alabama head coach Nick Saban in 2018 when the series was announced. "The Crimson Tide and Longhorns have played a lot of memorable games over the years and the addition of this home-and-home series will be great for not only our fans, but fans of college football."

Added UA director of athletics Greg Byrne, "We're thrilled to be able to add another incredible non-conference opponent with the University of Texas for a home-and-home series. It's been nearly 100 years since Alabama has visited Austin and over a century since the Longhorns have traveled to Tuscaloosa, so we're looking forward to it. This will certainly be a great opportunity for our program and our fans."

Texas holds a 7-1-1 edge in the series with six meetings coming in bowl games. The teams first met in Tuscaloosa during the 1902 season followed by trips to Austin for the Tide in 1915 and 1922. The bowl game meetings include the 1948 Sugar Bowl, the 1960 Bluebonnet Bowl, the 1965 Orange Bowl, the 1973 and 1982 Cotton Bowls and the national title game in 2010.

The Alabama-Texas matchup will be one with no shortage of storylines as the Longhorns roster and coaching staff features several former members of the Crimson Tide, including head coach Steve Sarkisian, who was UA’s offensive coordinator before moving on to Austin. Three former Tide players play for Texas in Jahleel Billingsley, Agiye Hall and Keilan Robinson.
