AHSAA crowns 2023 state wrestling champions

Hundreds of matches took over Propst Arena in Huntsville for a weekend of wrestling.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — One hundred and twenty-seven schools were represented in the final installment of the three-day takeover of Propst Arena.

Schools competed across four classifications determined by enrollment size: 1A-4A, 5A, 6A and 7A. Within those size-based competition groupings were 14 weight classes for the individual wrestlers.

At the event, itself, each of the four weight classes' placement matches - gold, silver, bronze and fourth place - happened simultaneously. In all, 224 wrestlers earned medals.

State Wrestling Team Champions with highest-placed North Alabama finisher:

1A-4A: Weaver (105 points)

* New Hope (5th place, 73.5)

5A: Jasper (116.5)

* Scottsboro (2nd, 110.5)

6A: McAdory (160.5)

* Hartselle (6th, 110.5)

7A: Vestavia Hills (206)

* Huntsville (3rd, 157)
