Update: Deadly boating incidents under investigation

Two weekend boating incidents are under investigation.

UPDATE (5/26/19 4:35PM)  ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers have released the name of the 12 year old from Vinemont who was killed in Saturday evening’s boating accident. Investigators say Christian Hart was killed when he was hit by a boat near the Goat Island area of Smith Lake. Hart had been tubing in the area prior to the crash.

The incident is still being investigated.


UPDATE (5/26/19 3:30 p.m.) ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers are still investigating a fatal single vessel crash that occurred Saturday in Lacey Springs near Talucah Landing. 

According to a release from Patrol Commander, Capt. Gary Buchanan, Jerome Marks, 56, of Huntsville was killed when he fell off the personal watercraft he was operating near Talucah Landing. According to investigators, Marks was not wearing a personal flotation device.

The investigation is still ongoing. We will update you as more information is released.


UPDATE (10:00 p.m.) ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers are still investigating a boat crash that occurred Saturday on Smith Lake near Goat Island around 6:20 p.m.

According to a release from Patrol Commander Capt. Gary Buchanan, the single vessel crash resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy from the Vinemont area. Investigators say a boat was pulling three juveniles on tubes when the 12-year-old was fatally injured.

More information is being gathered at this time. We will update you as more information is released.


Two boating incidents are being investigated by ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers. According to a release from Senior Trooper Chuck Daniel, one incident happened on Goat Island on Smith Lake, and the other incident happened near Talucah Landing on Lake Wheeler.  So far, that is all that’s been released. Marine troopers say they will release more information.
