Well we all know about 9-1-1… But, how many people know that you can dial 2-1-1 to get the help you need just as quickly?
Tuesday is National “2-1-1” Day and local groups want you to know about resources that are available to you. And some on the way.
The United Way of Madison County held a 2-1-1 day conference to let you know–by just dialing that number, you can be connected to services across the valley to help you with any issues.
A surprise announcement was given. United way is partnering with Toyota to start “Ride United”– a ride-share service similar to Lyft to provide rides for locals to and from work.
“Ride United” will enable those who don’t have steady means of transportation to still provide for themselves and their loved ones. United Way says this new service could change lives.
We spoke with Cathy Miller from United Way of Madison County. Miller tells us, “We have transportation gaps in this community. We’re so spread out in Madison County. Sometimes people want to go to work. They’re trained and ready– they just can’t get there.”
“Ride United” is starting up this week.
Riders are referred by local organizations that they’re seeking employment through. United Way hopes to provide about 500 rides this year.
