Nineteen other companies also joining the two industry giants to team up with the the United Nations for a new initiative named “Playing for the Planet: How Video Games Can Deliver for the People and the Environment.”

Using the new program, the U.N. hopes gamers will start engaging in climate-related issues. Companies have made various green pledges, from incorporating environmental themes into their game plots, to reducing supply-chain emissions by 30% by 2030.

Game developers have jumped on board as well – including Rovio, makers of the mobile hit “Angry Birds” and its subsequent sequels. Former Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon named the red bird an “honorary ambassador for green.”
