A family medicine doctor who operated in Toney has pleaded guilty to drug distribution charges arising out of her prescription of opioid drugs to patients at her Choice Medicine Clinic.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the guilty to one count of unlawful distribution of controlled substances came as the jury was deliberating but before they reached a verdict.

Celia Lloyd-Turney (Turney), M.D. was indicted in April 2019. The DOJ says that at trial, evidence showed that from 2015 to 2017, Turney wrote multiple prescriptions for controlled substances to purported patients who were actively abusing other drugs, suffering from addiction, and selling the pills.  

Turney will be sentenced on June 8.
