On Tuesday, Governor Ivey announced the 21 schools that were selected as “Alabama Bicentennial Schools of Excellence.”
The schools were selected from a group of 200 that submitted proposals for projects connecting them with their local communities. Three of the winners are right here in the Valley — Athens High School, Kilby Laboratory School in Florence and Moores Mill Intermediate School in New Market.
Each received a $5,000 dollar Governor’s Award grant. Moores Mill Middle School has previously received a $2,000 grant
Moores Mill Middle will use the funds to extend their community engagement program to institute “200 Acts of Kindness” to promote the Alabama Bicentennial.
