An operation targeting illegal contraband at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore yielded weapons, drugs, and cell phones.
Before dawn on April 18, the Alabama Department of Corrections and multiple law enforcement agencies searched every inch of the facility, looking for illegal items.
According to ADOC, officials seized large quantities illegal drugs, weapons, cellphones and various types of electronic devices. They recovered 356 makeshift weapons, 91 grams of meth, 98 grams of marijuana, cocaine, more than 400 assorted pills, and 16 cell phones.
This was the second joint operation conducted by ADOC. The first was at St. Clair Correctional Facility in Springville in February.
The ADOC says more unannounced operations are planned.
