Suspect in Aniah Blanchard case to be charged with Capital Murder

The Lee County District Attorney’s office held a press conference Monday, Dec. 2, with an update on the Aniah Blanchard case.

In the press conference, Lee County District Attorney Brandon Hughes said Ibraheem Yazeed will be charged with Capital Murder in the death of Aniah Blanchard.

Yazeed had been previously charged with 1st Degree Kidnapping and Attempted Murder, according the press conference and court records.

Aniah Blanchard was last seen Oct. 23 at a Chevron gas station on College Street in Auburn. Yazeed is believed to have abducted her from that gas station. Remains believed to be Blanchard were found on Nov. 25 and were confirmed to be hers on Nov. 27. Following an autopsy, medical examiners determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound.

Lee County District Attorney’s Office says Yazeed is the only suspect they will be charging with Capital Murder, and say they believe he is the only one responsible for Blanchard’s abduction and murder. The district attorney’s office will be seeking the death penalty in this case.

Yazeed will be served with a new warrant for Capital Murder. He remains in the Lee County Jail without bond.
