There’s a need for first responders in rural parts of Colbert County and now an incentive for those who are interested in serving that community.
The Colbert County Commission is helping sponsor a scholarship that would cover a candidate’s education and training to become an EMT at Northwest Shoals Community College.
The goal is to help get more EMT’s out in the rural parts of the county to help with the volunteer fire departments.
“The better prepared and more medically trained people we have out there in rural areas, the better we thought it would be for all communities out there,” said Mike Melton, Colbert County EMA Director.
There are two scholarship openings, and the volunteer would serve at one of the county’s volunteer fire departments for 3 years. For more information, contact one of the Colbert County volunteer fire departments.
If you want to support this fund, you can this weekend. There’s a Battle of the Bands concert happening this in Florence on Saturday. Proceeds of the event will go to the scholarship fund. Click here for more information.
