The Rocket City is ready to kick-up some sand at John Hunt Park.
Mayor Tommy Battle was joined by officials Friday afternoon to cut the ribbon to officially open the new sand volleyball courts. The nearly $4 million sand volleyball complex includes state of the art technology for athletes such as cooling stations.
These new courts are actually just another step in the parks multi-year renovation which will also be bringing cross country, mountain biking, and golf.
“As we slowly go through our progression, we’re talking about a new football stadium out here. We’re talking about some new things, a festival area out here where we can have festivals. this will be a great place for us to have future barbecue contest and things like that. there’s a lot of possibilities out here and those possibilities can become a reality,” Mayor Tommy Battle said at the event.
Mayor Battle was also joined by Olympian and 7-time world champion Sinjin Smith.
