HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Tonight the Salvation Army will most likely see a full house because of the freezing temperatures.

Social Services Program Director, Kevin Free said the Emergency Shelter saw a slight increase from Monday night’s temperature drop. But when the crowds increase at the shelter, what changes for the staff and volunteers?

“We have staff on duty all the time. We’re prepared for a full house at any given day so I think we’ll be prepared and ready to go,” Free said, “Right now we’re breaking out blankets. We’re looking at how many blankets we have and how many we’ll need and as the weather gets colder we’ll hand out more blankets at night time when they stay over.”

Free said the best impression someone can make on the homeless is lending a helping hand when it’s not needed.

“These people are sleeping under a bridge sometimes, sleeping out in the woods in tents, and when the cold weather hits it’s very important to the Salvation Army to play a part in helping the community.”
