Rainbow Elementary School, including PreK, will be closed on Friday, March 8.
The decision was made after an incident with a boiler on Thursday led to an evacuation of the school. According to Madison City Schools Superintendent Robby Parker, the heater cannot be repaired and a full replacement is needed.
Staff will continue working on the situation through the weekend and families will be updated via Messenger tomorrow.
Parker commended the administrative and office staff and teachers at Rainbow for their work today implementing the school’s safety plan. He also thanked Angie Bush at the PreK center and her staff for taking care of students with special needs and the PreK classes that are at Rainbow, and to the Discovery Middle School staff that was waiting on the 600 kids to house and feed them.
The evacuation was triggered by elevated carbon monoxide levels caused by the boiler breakdown. Parker says that Madison police and fire, and Madison City Transportation employees prang into action to get the kids transported.
