Huntsville municipal elections: Official Results

Municipal elections were on August 23. Here are the winners.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — On Aug. 26, Huntsville City Council canvassed and certified the results of the Aug. 23 municipal election and declared the following candidates winners. Their terms begin Nov. 7.

  • Bill Kling – District 4 City Council Member
  • Ryan Renaud – District 4 Board of Education Member
  • Holly McCarty – District 2 Board of Education Member

There will be run-offs for District 2 City Council and District 3 Board of Education candidates. Voters will choose between District 2 City Council candidates David Little and Bill Yell and District 3 Board of Education candidates Andrea Alvarez and Angela McClure on Sept. 20.

Huntsville's municipal election is this Tuesday, August 23. The election will select City Council and School Board members for Districts 2, 3, and 4. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Only voters in districts 2, 3 and 4 will be eligible to cast ballots.

Visit the City’s election page (HuntsvilleAL.gov/Elections) for information about the candidates as well as sample ballots in both English and Spanish.

Where to vote

Check your precinct. It may have changed after the recent redistricting process, some voters’ precincts changed. If you don't know your precinct, you can enter your name and date of birth at myinfo.alabamavotes.gov/voterview.

Absentee voting

Absentee ballots must be postmarked by Monday, Aug. 22, and received by noon on Aug. 23 to be counted. Voters can also hand-deliver their ballot to an absentee election manager by 5:00 p.m. on Aug. 22.

Oversight

The City Clerk Treasurer’s Office manages municipal elections, while Madison County provides voting machines. Officials tested the machines on Aug. 17 and reported no issues.

Polling places

There are 30 polling places and 250 pollworkers for the Aug. 23 municipal election.

Results and canvassing

The city says that when polls close, votes will be tallied at the Madison County Courthouse in downtown Huntsville. You can view unofficial results on MadisonCountyVotes.com as they are counted. The City will share official election results on its website after they have been canvassed by the Council at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, in 1st Floor Chambers, City Hall, 308 Fountain Circle. Provisional ballots will be opened and considered at that time.

Runoff date

If necessary, the City will hold a runoff election Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Oath of office

The City will swear in elected officials during an oath of office ceremony Monday, Nov. 7.
