First-time voters share their experience on Super Tuesday

Jordin Russell, 18, and Willie Harris, 21, ran into each other as first-time voters on Super Tuesday. Both graduated from the same high school.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — As Primary Elections are underway throughout the country, some people here in the Valley shared their experiences as first-time voters on Super Tuesday.

"I'm nervous, I'm kind of scared, because this is a big decision...I'm getting to vote for the first time today," said Sparkman High School senior, Jordin Russell.

Russell like millions more voted this Super Tuesday. He feels it's his civic duty in society.

"As a young person in society, the older generation tend to think like we don't really have like we're not smart enough to really make decisions and I feel like this is an opportunity to have a say so in what's going on in our country," said Russell.

Just a short time later, all his nerves were gone.

"It feels good, actually great...Once I got in there, and saw the ballot my nerves went down," said Russell.

He would unknowingly run into a friend who's also voting for the first time, Willie Harris, 21.

"I just want to see that my impact is doing enough, just to vote, but also effecting my community as well...I just feel like the vote itself is more powerful through primary and the real election," said Harris.

Harris' neighbor, Quintessa Thomas, supported him along the way.

"It's a blessing, there are so many people that came before us that paved the way so that we are able to vote. And to see young men that we used to watch playing pee-wee basketball and neighbors get to see that they have taken an initiative to vote on this day with us," said Thomas.
