Huntsville Star Market donates to help military kids

The Military Child Education Coalition held a training seminar today to teach military kids in Huntsville how to work through difficult times. Huntsville Star Market held a fundraiser and donated the proceeds to go toward the training seminars in Alabama.

There are over 4 million kids and teens with parents serving in the Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve Forces, and those of post 9/11 veterans. Military kids also move cities and change schools 3 times more often than children without parents in the military.

The organization is helping kids find their strengths and interests so they can be successful in the future.

Bill Lawson, with the Military Child Education Coalition, said, “We’re dealing with a lot more difficult challenging experiences that these kids have to deal with.”

“We also have children whose parents come back very different either from injuries or just from the experience of being at war,” said Julie Coffey with the Military Child Education Coalition.

They will be holding another training session tomorrow for military children with special needs and discuss veteran’s family and children issues on Thursday.
