Defending Class 6A state boys’ basketball champion Carver-Montgomery broke open a close game with a 14-3 run to start the second half quarter and the Wolverines moved into the state finals winning 62-47 over Muscle Shoals Wednesday.
     The Class 6A boys’ semifinal win at the BJCC Legacy Center sends Coach James Jackson’s Wolverines (23-10) into the championship game against the winner of the Pinson Valley vs. Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa semifinal set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
      Carver’s 6-foot-8 Jaykwon Walton scored 24 points, including 6-of-7 at the foul line and two 3-pointers. He also had three assists, three blocked shots and one steal in a strong all-around effort.  Jereme Robinson, Carver’s 6-8 center, added 15 points and 10 rebounds and  Anthony Scott had nine points, seven rebounds and was 5-of-6 at the charity stripe. Carver was 15-of-21 for the game sinking 13-of-18 in the final quarter.
     Muscle Shoals senior guard Mark Sears had 19 points to lead Coach Neal Barker’s Trojans (25-8). He handed out four assists, had five rebounds and was perfect on all nine free throws attempted.  Avery Dilworthy chipped in seven points and Nicholas Griffith cleared a team-high seven rebounds.
