A multi-vehicle crash on I-565 and Jordan Lane early Friday, June 21 was caused by an SUV going the wrong way. At 4:50 a.m Friday morning, Huntsville Police were dispatched to a car crash with entrapment.
According to police, the driver of the SUV was going the wrong way on I-565, and a witness confirmed he entered the exit ramp from Sparkman Drive to travel east in the westbound lanes of I-565. Reportedly he swerved to avoid hitting multiple cars, and as a result, his vehicle spun out.
The second driver was driving a FedEx 18-wheeler traveling west on I-565. The 18-wheeler struck the SUV as it was spinning, causing debris to travel across the median wall and hit two more vehicles.
The driver of the SUV was transported to Huntsville Hospital in critical condition and is expected to survive. He was not wearing his seatbelt.
The driver of the FedEx truck received minor injuries and the other two drivers were not injured.
Criminal charges are expected for the driver of the SUV pending results from a toxicology report.
