Morgan County’s District 3 Commissioner has been arrested for violating Alabama’s ethics laws.

Don Stisher, 63, was arrested Monday morning, Nov. 4. According to authorities, Stisher turned himself in on a charge of Knowing Conversion of Campaign Funds to Personal Use. According to the sentencing order, he received two checks in 2015 for his campaign, but deposited both checks into his personal back account instead of his campaign one. He then spent those funds on personal expenses unrelated to his campaign. He did not report either contribution on his monthly campaign-finance report, which he submitted to the Secretary of State’s Office. After Stisher was notified that the Alabama Ethics Commission was investigating these actions, he reimbursed his campaign $2,000 in March 2018.

He plead guilty to the misdemeanor charge on Monday, and was sentenced to a year’s probation and a $2,000 fine. Stisher has been District 3’s Commissioner since 1996.
