Students from Huntsville’s Montview Elementary School held a special program on Friday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

All grades, from Pre-K to 5th, were part of the celebration of Dr. King’s life and work. A former teacher, Ms. Donna Walker, presented King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, and different classes sang, recited poems, and performed skits and special readings to honor King.

Parents and members of the community were their to see the work the whole school put into sharing the legacy of the civil rights leader.

Teacher Irene Moore-Smith said, “There are great things happening inside our building, and we are creating leaders, and this program is just a small taste of what’s in store for the future of our students at Montview Elementary School.”

Teacher Tori Ford shared some of the work the students did. “Pre-K all the way through 5th grade participated, and it’s really great because Pre-K, they are starting to understand what’s going on. They’re excited, we all are excited, and our 3rd graders and the rest of the school have just been working so hard and they’re so proud and we’re all so excited.”
