The results are in for the 12-mil property tax increase in Madison. The numbers show that people in Madison overwhelmingly voted for the ad valorem tax increase. It passed by a two to one margin.

Madison City Schools has gained nearly 900 students since last year. People in the area say the overcrowding is a big problem.

The money from the tax increase would go toward building a 900-student elementary school and 1,200 student middle school. They also plan to add on to high schools.

Madison resident, Ashley Lang, said, “We don’t have rooms for our computer labs. We don’t have rooms for some of our bigger extracurriculars. We don’t have rooms for anything, so we need those kids to have more schools. We need them to have more space.”

Once the vote is confirmed, Madison City Schools will have two new schools coming to the area.
