Watch out for coronavirus scams

U.S. Attorney Jay Town says to watch out for fake fundraisers and fraudulent e-mails regarding COVID-19.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Jay Town, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, is reminding everyone of COVID-19 fraud.

He says they're seeing things like fake online sales for personal protection equipment, stimulus check scams, and even false cures for COVID-19.

Town says to watch out for fake fundraisers and fraudulent e-mails.

"Be deliberate. Investigate. Take your time. Contemplate what you're doing, and then react and be wise about it, you won't be a victim more than likely and that's what we're trying to prevent," said Town.

Every U.S. attorneys office now has a COVID-19 coordinator to focus on scams across the nation.
