HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Clean-up efforts are underway to get one Huntsville marina back open. On Saturday, volunteers came out to clean up Ditto Landing after weeks of flooding and damage.

"Luckily, we have amazing volunteers. We've had dozens of volunteers that came out," said Ditto Landing Executive Director, Brandi Quick.

The marina has been closed for three weeks and Quick says it's been rough.

"The sooner that we can get everything cleaned up, the sooner that we can get back open and back to normal, and that helps us number one - with our revenue. But it also helps all of our visitors to be able to come in and enjoy the park," said Quick.

Thanks to these dozens of volunteers, the park will be opening soon.

"They've brought equipment they brought tools, they brought strong backs and strong hands. So, we're just excited to have them out to help us out to be able to reopen," added Quick.

Groups like the Huntsville-Madison County Rowing and Watersports team have joined in to help.

"It seems like every year they have one or two clean-ups that participate in that, and then they do other events that we have the teams participate and help with that as well," said Jeffrey Coy, Huntsville-Madison County Rowing & Watersports Director.

The teams unloaded rowing equipment back to its normal storage area once the water receded. They later joined their parents who were working on the other side of the marina.

"It's really about impacting the community in a positive way - making sure that Ditto is everything that's it's supposed to be," said Coy.

Quick says she's thankful for the commitment from the community. "I saw a lady in her, looked like brand new tennis shoes, just all the way ankle deep in mud - and that's the dedication that we see from our volunteers. They have been incredible."

The boat launch will open back up again on Sunday, and the campground on Monday.

Flooding brought water levels over 20 feet, about 12 feet above normal levels.
