Our original report continues below.
Don't be confused - even though Huntsville and Decatur held their St. Patrick's Day parades a weekend ahead to get a jump on the Friday celebrations, that doesn't mean there's no fun to be had on March 17, the actual date. In fact, there are three places in Downtown Athens to get your green on and enjoy food, drinks, and live music.
Athens Alehouse & Cellar will close down Washington Street for its family-friendly St. Patrick's bash. Featured guests will be the band Andrew's Legend. Food will include selections from Sandman Sandmiches and Rocket City Popperz. Beer tents will also be set up for the adults to wet their whistles. The fun begins at 4 p.m.
Unplug'd Athens will fill Merchant's Alley at 107 N Jefferson Street with live music, a DJ, and the all-important food and drink from 7-10 p.m. Friday. Announced guests include Lockhart Music and Brandon Lee, among others.
Limestone Legends Billiards will present their own spin on a Paddy's Day party. DJ Manny will headline a night of music and fun including live karaoke. The discs start spinning at 8:30 p.m. They are located at 111 S. Marion St Suite A .
St. Patrick's Day is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland. Boston held its first St. Patrick’s Day parade in 1737, followed by New York City in 1762.
