April 27, 2011 tornado damage - Union Grove, AL

Take a look at these photos from the historic tornado outbreak on April 27, 2011.

UNION GROVE, Ala. — Nine years ago today, 62 tornados tore through Alabama, damaging or destroying thousands of homes, killing more than 200 people, and injuring thousands more.

These photos are of a home on County Road 240 in Union Grove. During the tornadoes, Mike and Connie reed, along with their two daughters, took shelter in Guntersville and returned to their heavily damaged home.

The family camped out at the property for a couple week after their home was destroyed.

They were able to save some furniture and have rebuilt since.
