THE LATEST: Business, entertainment, service, and event changes

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Businesses, services, and events across North Alabama have made decisions to cancel or suspend activities or close. Here's a list of what we know so far:

As of March 20, 2020:

Redstone Federal Credit Union will temporarily close all its branch lobbies beginning Saturday, March 21, until further notice. This action is part of the credit union’s efforts to halt the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Redstone’s drive-thru teller stations or ITMs and ATMs will remain open at each branch from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

The U.S. Space and Rocket Center will extend their closure through April 12. Space Camp will also be closed until that time.

As of March 19, 2020:

Maggie Moo's at Bridgestreet is now takeout only with outside seating still available. They are also offering Curbside Delivery until 7:00 p.m. Call ahead and they'll bring your order to your car. 

As of March 18, 2020:

Athens Utilities: Athens Utilities closing its Customer Accounts lobby to the public and temporarily suspending disconnects for nonpayment. Customers are urged to pay what they can on their bills between now and April 6 to help keep their balances low. Athens Utilities will re-evaluate the COVID-19 situation on April 6 to determine whether to extend this modified policy.

Payments can be made via drive-thru or in the night drop-box at 508 S. Jefferson St., online at athens-utilities.com (fee applies), by mail, with pay-by-phone at 1-855-760-0921 (fee applies) or with a bank draft (no fee). More information on these changes is at athens-utilities.com.

Huntsville Parks and Recreation - Facilities will remain open to the public on a modified schedule, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., to allow workers to perform a deep clean on the weekends. The adjusted hours apply to parks, recreation centers and pools. Patrons are asked to observe the Centers for Disease Control guidelines of social distancing while using the park facilities. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent. 

Recreation center weight rooms will remain closed and individual training sessions have been cancelled along with large group activities and sporting events. These include:  

  • Williams Gym, Goldsmith-Schiffman Gym, Challenger Gym 
  • Organized club practices
  • Water therapy, water exercise classes, swim lessons
  • All large meetings
  • Pickleball
  • Youth baseball and softball, adult softball and adaptive basketball - postponed until April 5.

Huntsville Botanical Garden - Huntsville Botanical Garden is temporarily closed starting Tuesday, March 17.

Madison County has a website specifically for coronovirus (COVID-19) information, including changes to county services.

Madison Chamber of Commerce has postponed all events and is closed to visitors, however they can be reached at 256-325-8317.

Huntsville/Madison County Visitor Center - The Huntsville/Madison County Visitor Center and Huntsville International Airport visitors kiosk will be closed until further notice. Their administrative office will remain open. Broadway Theatre League has postponed three upcoming shows. Patrons are asked to retain their tickets as BTL is working to reschedule these shows.

Cullman County Detention Center: No non-essential personnel may enter the Cullman County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. This includes visitors, volunteers, and volunteer program officials. Exceptions will be made for legal visits by attorneys on a case-by-case basis. Pistol permit forms can be found on their website.

Huntsville Hospital: Visitation remains restricted, volunteers and vendors have been told to stay home, and student shadowing programs have been suspended until further notice.

Jackson County Court System - The courthouse will be closed Monday, March 16, but the courts will remain open. In-person court proceedings are suspended with limited exceptions. The jury term for March 30 is cancelled and jurors are excused. For more information, click here.

City of Decatur - City services will be offered by appointment only. This includes Animal Services, Building Department, Human Resources, Planning Department, Revenue Department, Parks & Recreation, and Youth Services.

Decatur Parks & Recreation - Several facilities will be closed, effective Tuesday, March 17: Aquadome Recreation Center, Aquadome Pool, Fort Decatur Recreation Center, Ingalls Harbor Pavilion, Jack Allen Soccer Complex, Jimmy Johns Tennis Center, Old State Bank, T.C. Almon Recreation Center, Southern Railway Train Depot, and Wilson Morgan Ballfields. For any questions, call 256-341-4730.

EarlyWorks Family of Museums - EarlyWorks Children's Museum, Alabama Constitution Hall Park, and the Historic Huntsville Depot will be closed to the public through April 3, effective immediately. For questions, call 256-564-8100.

Madison County Courthouse - The courthouse is closed, effective immediately, and will remain so until further notice. You can find specific details regarding operations and office hours on the Madison County website.

Alabama Veterans Homes - A new visitation policy is in place. Routine visits by non-employees, including work done by volunteers, have been temporarily halted at all four homes. Entry into the homes by anyone other than employees is restricted to medically-necessary visits by outside healthcare personnel and/or visits by family members to terminally ill residents in their final days. U.S. Space and Rocket Center closing from Friday, March 13 through Friday, April 3.

Huntsville-Madison County Public Libraries - All library programs and events, including story times, classes, movies, and book club meetings, are canceled from March 16 through March 31. Reservations made by local groups to use our public meeting spaces for community gatherings are canceled, as well as use of study rooms at the Downtown and Madison branches. However, you can check out up to 50 items and they are adding another renewal to everyone's account (does not apply to hotspots and other devices).

Madison County TRAM - Only patients traveling to cancer treatment appointments and patients traveling to kidney dialysis appointments will be transported via the Madison County TRAM service.  All other trips are suspended until further notice.  Please call the TRAM office for further information 256-532-3792.

All Madison County Recreation Facilities are closed until further notice.

City of Athens - All organized recreational activities canceled through at least March 20. The Athens Recreational Center will also be closed for public use.

Unclaimed Baggage will postpone its 50 Years 50 States Road Tour anniversary celebration and launch event, scheduled for March 20-21.

Farm Burger is closing its dining room and limiting hours to 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. They will however offer curbside delivery for guests who order via phone, on the website or through the Farm Burger mobile app. You can also go inside and place a to-go order or pick-up in-store.

Belk has closed all stores until at least March 30.
