HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — If you're looking for work, listen up! Several counties in the Tennessee Valley have teamed up to host a free virtual career fair to help those who have lost their jobs during the pandemic. It's called the 'Upwards Career & Training Fair".
"We're really excited to be able to offer 'Upwards Career & Training Fair' across the entire North Alabama region," says Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce's Industry Relations, Lydia Pennington.
Pennington joins twelve other counties and North Alabama Works to host this event. "For the job seeker, it's just going in - creating a simple registration, uploading a resume. If you don't have a resume there's actually great resources on that website to build your resume," says Pennington.
They're also looking for employers to register for virtual booths."What's going on here is going on everywhere. You have companies that had to do some furloughs. You have some that are now hiring back. Some that were still hiring even prior to COVID are still looking for people," added Pennington.
There will also be virtual chats. Time slots are:
Tuesday - 1 to 4 pm
Wednesday - 2 to 4 pm., 7-8 Is optional
Thursday - 9 am to noon.
Shoals Chamber of Commerce VP of Workforce Readiness, Stephanie Newland, says although this is a virtual event job seekers should still be prepared.
"Be prepared with your resume so that if they ask you questions about your work history, you'll have it right there. Dress nicely as if you're going to an interview so that if you do have to pop up on somebody's screen, you're going to look good," says Newland.
Organizers say if this virtual career and training fair has a good turnout, they'll have another in August and September. To register for the event as an employer and a job-seeker, click here.
