Protect the environment - and your personal information - at North Alabama 'Shred Days'

Take your personal papers, electronics, and unwanted medications to the Shred Day event on Sept. 10.

MOULTON, Ala. — Mail, personal papers, old electronics, and even discarded medication bottles can give identity thieves a chance to get to your personal information.

That's why it's so important to discard these items carefully, and one way to do that is at a community "shred day".

The Better Business Bureau of North Alabama is hosting a Lawrence County Shred Day on Friday, September 10 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Foodland Shopping Center in Moulton. Residents and small businesses can help protect identities and the environment in a quick and easy drive-thru setup.

What I can I take to Shred Day?

- Free Document Shredding: Limit of 10 bags or boxes per person. Only paper documents will be accepted. Please remove all other materials such as cardboard, plastic, metal, and binders.

- Free* Electronic Recycling: Items must be less than 40 lbs. and include hard drives, cell phones, laptops, tablets, and game consoles. Televisions are accepted for a fee of $10 each.

- Free Drug Take-Back: The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department will be on hand to collect unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications. Please remove labels with personal information before turning these in. Liquids and needles are not accepted.

In addition, donations of non-perishable food items will be collected to benefit Good Samaritan Food Pantry.

Additionally, Trustmark is partnering with Shred-It to host a drive-thru document shred day in Huntsville. Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles and will be limited to three large trash bags or boxes per person.

Trustmark says there is no need to worry about paper clips, staples or binders at this event. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2021 Cecil Ashburn Drive on Thursday, September 16.
