Back-to-school events for the Tennessee Valley

It is almost time for kids to go back to school, and with that comes all the back-to-school events.

July 30: Tuscumbia City Schools: Back to School Expo, Deshler Middle School Gym, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Free school supplies, free haircuts, dental freebies, fresh fruits/veggies, sign up for free/reduced price lunch, and more. Must be registered for school.

August 1: Back to School Bash at Jemison High School, 5000 Pulaski Pike NW 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Come out and support Mae C. Jemison’s faculty & staff as they prepare for the upcoming school year. Games, water slides, and free food.

August 2: Free Back to School Supplies at Boost Mobile, 2805 University Dr. NW. Score a new backpack and school supplies for your student at a participating Boost Mobile location during our Back To School event! No purchase necessary. There will be music, games and fun for the whole family! Limit one backpack per customer while supplies last.

August 3: Back to School Parade and Festival at Jemison High School, 5000 Pulaski Pike NW, 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Parade, Battle of the Bands, Dance Off, Slam Dunk Contest & 3 Point Shoot Out, water slides & inflatables, rock wall, face painting, animal balloons, Hula Hoop contest, dunking booth, and more!

August 3: Scottsboro has a Back to School 5k and Fun Run at 8:00 a.m. and it costs $10. All proceeds will go to Jackson County Children’s Advocacy Center and Childhood Cancer. You can register online or at Scottsboro City Hall.

August 4: Knuckle Headz 3rd Annual Back to School Drive, 5310 Millennium Dr., Huntville, 3:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Open to the community. Food, games, moon bounce, prizes, free giveaways, free book bags, haircuts, special guest speakers, special guest performances, and more.

August 4: Back to School Community Event hosted by Rise Build Achieve, 2415 Old Moulton Rd., Decatur AL, 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Giveaways, door prizes, food.
100 Toiletry Bags (first 50 boys & first 50 girls, must be present)
Drawing for on-site Haircuts for boys (must pre-register at https://myrba.eventbrite.com)
Drawing for Certificates for Hair Stylists for girls (must pre-register at https://myrba.eventbrite.com)

Special Sales:

Aug 1-Aug 3: Athens Consignment Sale at Tuckston United Method Church.

  • Aug 1 is early public sale from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. It is free for pregnant/fostering/adopting moms, $4 entry fee otherwise. For this sale no strollers and no kids under 12; babies may be worn.
  • Aug 2 is public sale from 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., no entry fee.
  • Aug 3 is half-price public sale for most items from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., no entry fee.

School Supply Dropoffs:

Through August 8: Morgan County Schools: Drop offs can be made up until August 8th at the Priceville Dollar General or the MCS Central Office in Priceville or any of Decatur’s Renasant Bank locations.

July 31: CB&S More than a Backpack school supply drive from 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Drop off supplies at any local CB&S bank or the Walmart at 6140 University Drive.

Daily July 1- July 31 Christmas Charities Year Round Mobile Closet Drive– This organization visits Madison County Schools once a week starting in August. This year it has teamed up with Applewhite Movers, LLC and WJAB Radio to fill its mobile closet. You can drop off donations at WJAB in Morris Hall on Alabama A&M University’s Campus, at Christmas Charities Year Round at 3054 Leeman Ferry Road Buildings P&Q in Huntsville, or at Applewhite Movers at 5640 Oakwood Road NW in Huntsville.
