OPELIKA, Ala. — Chip Matthews was especially excited to greet the mail carrier on November 5. He was hoping he'd get some extra special packages for his sixth birthday.
The Matthews' family mail carrier, Tawanna Purter, delivered Chip's presents, cards, and a little something special from her.
Reaching into her pocket, Purter found a few dollars in spare change - a little fortune for the young boy - and handed it over as a birthday gift.
The small gesture of kindness is one the Matthews family says they hope to hold onto.
Chip's mother, Bonnie, was deeply touched by the gesture. "For a six-year-old that was a lot of money and he was ecstatic and we were grateful to her and appreciative of her gesture."
Mail carrier Purter says: "Hopefully people will take this time to always remember to be kind to one another."
