Madison City Schools to offer flu vaccine to students

According to the district, the flu vaccine is completely optional.

MADISON, Alabama — Madison City Schools will be offering a flu vaccine to its students this year.

The vaccine will be provided and administered by Vaccinating Alabama Kids in Schools. Due to COVID-19 and the staggered school start, flu vaccine clinic dates will also be staggered.

Individual schools will email parents consent forms approximately one week prior to the scheduled date. If you want your child to receive the vaccine, you must download the form, print it out, completely fill it out and have your child return it to their teacher.

According to the district, the flu vaccine is completely optional. There will be no out-of-pocket costs associated with the vaccine, but your insurance will be billed. If your child is not covered by insurance, they will be eligible for the vaccine for free.

The vaccine will be administered via a shot.
