Local organizers say registering to vote 'utmost importance'

Local leaders and organizers reflect on the importance of voting following Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Over the weekend, several groups in Huntsville have continued the effort to get folks registered to vote.

'Vote Gone Viral' volunteers set up at St. Luke Christian Church Sunday to check voter registration status, and assist with absentee ballot requests.

"It's always of utmost importance to be registered and participating as a citizen," says Jordan Steelman, 'Vote Gone Viral' & 'Vote Huntsville' volunteer.

On Saturday, groups also had a voter and census drive thru at Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church.

Organizers reflect on the importance of voting following the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

"So we understand that through voting we influence policy. We influence our Supreme Court. We influence our local judicial representatives, " says Dr. Tonya Perry, Coalition For Justice Through Civic Engagement Chairperson.

The last day to register to vote is October 19th. For more information on filling out an absentee ballot, click here.
