Local fire departments receive large grant for lifesaving equipment

Some Madison County fire departments received a big gift today.

MADISON COUNTY, ALABAMA, Ala. — Toney, Hazel Green, Keel Mountain, New Hope, and Owens Cross Roads fire departments were awarded a $706,000 grant to purchase new self-contained breathing apparatus.

The money is from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program under the guidance of FEMA.

The AFG is a highly competitive federal assistance grant that allows fire departments the opportunity to obtain lifesaving equipment they need to perform their jobs safely and effectively.
