Huntsville Police Back-to-School school supply drive underway

Schools this year may look different, but one thing never changes...the need for school supplies.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Planning is underway for the new school year, and while schools and education may look different in the wake of COVID-19, the need for school supplies, from pencils and paper to folders and calculators, never goes away.

The Huntsville Police Department is holding a School Supply Drive now through July 30. They're collecting back-to-school items for families in need, all of which will go to students in Huntsville City Schools.

You can drop donations off at the Public Safety Complex or the North, South, or West Precincts between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

They're accepting backpacks, school supplies, winter coats, and hygiene items. Huntsville police say your donations are needed now more than ever.

"It's especially important this year. This COVID-19 has impacted our community and many of the incomes of the families are in the community. So we feel it's especially important to get the items that we need to our children," says Sgt. Grady Thigpen.

The address to the donation locations are below:

Main Location: 815 Wheeler Avenue

North Precinct: 4014 North Memorial Parkway

South Precinct: 7900 Bailey Cove Road

West Precinct: 2110 West Clinton Avenue
