Huntsville leaders dedicate bridge to local fallen Vietnam veteran

The "Lance Cpl. Larry G. Clark Memorial Bridge" was unveiled to family of the fallen veteran.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville city leaders remember a local fallen Vietnam veteran by dedicating a bridge in his honor. Mayor Tommy Battle, along with Councilman Bill Kling, (Dist. 4) attended.

Leader's unveiled the "Lance Cpl. Larry G. Clark Memorial Bridge" on Drake Avenue just west of Memorial Parkway.

Clark's sister Lavonne Clark, his Aunt Jo Ann Mitchel Bolden, and nephew Terry Rust were there to receive a copy of the bridge sign. Some of Clark's high school friends attended also.

The Bronze Star veteran served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was 21 years-old when he was killed while launching a grenade during an attack 53 years ago in the Thua Tien Province.

"This is a great, great honor. I'm tickled to have this... for him, because these were his stomping grounds, you know," says Rust.

The city also presented a resolution for the bridge dedication to the family. Huntsville City Council passed a resolution in December to name the Drake Avenue Bridge at Huntsville Spring Branch the Lance Cpl. Larry G. Clark Memorial Bridge.
