Honoring Alabama's Fallen Officers

During Police Week, Alabama remembers those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

ALABAMA, USA — Police Week is May 10-May 16, 2020, and during this week we want to honor those who gave their lives in service to their communities.

This year's ceremonies were mostly online with minimal attendance due to social distancing recommendations amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Huntsville Police officer and STAC agent Billy Clardy III was killed in December of 2019. He received his brick the the Fallen Officers Memorial in Huntsville on Wednesday.

Limestone County shared a video to honor fallen officers from across the years, including information about each one's life and death.

The Florence Police Department honored fallen officers with this video:

And the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund held a Virtual Candlelight Vigil on May 13.

"This year, the names of 307 officers killed in the line of duty will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. These 307 officers include 135 officers who were killed during 2019, plus 172 officers who died in previous years but whose stories of sacrifice had been lost to history until now."
