Greater Huntsville Humane Society hosts pet food supply drive

GHHS is working with BancorpSouth and Cadence Bank to help local pets and pet owners in need.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Have a heart for pets? You can help local pets and their owners by joining the Greater Huntsville Humane Society pet food supply drive this month.

BancorpSouth and Cadence Bank, in partnership with the Greater Huntsville Humane Society (GHHS), are taking donations through the month of September. You can drop off dog and cat food at BancorpSouth and Cadence Bank locations during regular business hours. Two Men and a Truck Huntsville will lead all transportation efforts from bank drop-off points to the GHHS property on October 3. Donations for to King's Community Kitchen.

King’s Community Kitchen is the largest pet food bank in Alabama and accepts all brands, and even open bags. If you can't make it to the pet supply drive, you can drop off donations at the GHHS shelter (Monday-Saturday, 10am-4:00pm), or call for large pick-ups. The shelter is at 2812 Johnson Road SW in Huntsville.

The pet food pantry saw unprecedented growth in 2021 with over 100 new family enrollments and distribution of over 33,000 pounds of food. GHHS says, "By giving out dog and cat food, we can save lives and keep animals in their own homes. GHHS also donates food to Helping Animals Without Shelter (HAWS), Spay/Neuter Action Project (SNAP) and many other local organizations and community partners, to reach as many pet owners as possible."

Need help with pet food? King’s Community Kitchen offers participants 9 distributions in a 24 month period of time. To qualify for this program, you must provide photo ID, proof of need (a letter from Medicare, Food Stamps, WIC, etc.) and household income of below $35,000,  and WRITTEN proof of spay/neuter.

King’s Kitchen is open twice a month on the 2nd Wednesday from 2:00pm- 4:00pm and last Saturday of each month from 9:00am- 11:00am. Food pick-up (up to 30lbs) is allowed once a month.
