Raytheon partners with Downtown Rescue Mission for community garden

Raytheon employees and Downtown Rescue Mission residents have worked together to grow produce for its kitchen.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Raytheon technologies partnered with Downtown Rescue Mission to maintain a community garden at the rescue mission's campus.

Raytheon employees and Downtown Rescue Mission residents have worked together to grow produce like tomatoes and green peppers along with herbs like cilantro and rosemary.

The food from the garden is used to cook meals at Downtown Rescue Mission.

"The employees just have been really excited to help with us, knowing where this food is going and you know that it's going to their kitchen," said Natalie Lapacek-Trout with Raytheon Technologies.

"It gives them a means, for our residents, as they go through our program it's something they can kind of have ownership," said Downtown Rescue Mission Community Engagement Director Corey Buckner.

Raytheon said it intends to keep the partnership running long-term.
