Doug Jones gives farewell speech to U.S. senate

Doug Jones reflected on the more than 20 bi-partisan bills he co-sponsored and helped pass.

ALABAMA, USA — After serving a three year term, U.S. Senator Doug Jones gave his farewell speech to the U.S. senate on Wednesday, December 9.

Jones gets choked up as he spoke about his time in the senate. He reflected on the more than 20 bi-partisan bills he co-sponsored and helped pass.

Sen. Doug Jones said, "From the church bombing case to a senate election in Alabama, I fought for those causes because I believe in hope. I believe in redemption. I believe in the possibility."

Jones stated he is proud of working with both Republicans and Democrats.

He explained he didn't want to speak on the Senate Floor for the last time about what he has done and encouraged his fellow lawmakers to accomplish "what needs to be done."

He spoke in support of affordable broadband, raising minimum wage, and the Affordable Care Act.

Jones said, "The goal is healthcare for everyone."

Jones encouraged the senate to find a way to make elections safe and secure.

"It's possible to ensure that every eligible voter is able to cast a ballot and have it counted," said Jones.

Jones says it's possible to restore America's faith in government which he says has been shaken for many reasons.

"I'm going to support you in whatever efforts I can no matter what side of the isle your desk is on, and I'll keep working toward the same goals, too," said Jones.
