DeKalb County Schools reveal part of reopening plan

DeKalb County School Superintendent Jason Barnett shared his school system's plan to open next month.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. — The first week of school is August 10, but not all students will be at school on the same day. 

The plan right now is a staggered start.

That means students with the last name beginning with A - G come to class on August tenth.

August 11 is for those with last names beginning with H - M.

N - S return on the 12th.

T - Z return on the 13th.

And all students return on the 14th.

They will offer virtual on traditional sch0ol and will have a lot of extra cleaning measures. 

"We have contracted with a third party company to do ultra-cleaning, on a consistent and on-going basis. They have been doing this since the closure and will continue to do it throughout the year. They are also going to make sure our schools are well stocked in sanitation equipment."

Faculty will report to work on August 3 and will be required to wear masks.

Students will only be encouraged to wear masks.
