HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A new five-story office building is headed to Downtown Huntsville.

On Thursday morning, city leaders including Mayor Tommy Battle, Downtown Huntsville, Inc., Prince Holdings, and Bank Independent broke ground on where the new building will be, along Holmes Avenue and Green Street.

The address will be 225 Holmes Avenue.

"This is a partnership of the city combining with the Holdings company with the bank who has been a part of our community for a long, long time and to make our community a success," says Battle.

The new building, at 77,000 square feet, will have a bank, restaurant, and retail on the first floor, and office space on other floors.

Singleton says this project will be the first of its kind since about a decade, and has been in the works with Prince Holdings since 2016. He says the city allowed for the companies to use the parking deck across the street. Without the parking deck the city could not have the 5-story building.

"This is just a tribute to the leadership that we've had in this area, for many, many years and the attractiveness of this area for new business opportunities," says Bank Independent Area President, Tim Singleton, Jr.

"When we start looking at the Downtown area, it is kind of the living room of our city, and as we want to attract people, attract that workforce of tomorrow that has to come in and fill the jobs that we brought in to this area," says Battle.

A parking deck to support the new building is across the street. Bank officials say construction will be completed in the next fifteen to eighteen months.
