HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville has announced $70,000 in grants from the Google Fiber Digital Inclusion Fund.
The following organizations received funding through these grants:
- Girls Inc. of Huntsville, $18,000
- The CAP & GOWN Project, $10,000
- Huntsville City Schools, $10,000
- Village of Promise, $10,000
- Huntsville Inner City Learning Center, $8,000
- Huntsville STEAM Works, $6,000
- Real Fathers Making a Difference, $5,000
- New Futures, Inc., $3,000
The fund is designed to catalyze programs the help provide internet access and digital education to residents who don't currently have access.
“The current COVID crisis has demonstrated the need, now more than ever, to bridge the digital divide so that all students can have access to a quality education,” said Melissa Thompson, CEO/president of the Community Foundation.
These organizations were selected to help support distance-learning efforts for K through 12 students in the City of Huntsville.
“Google Fiber is excited to support the Huntsville community’s digital inclusion priorities at this critical time,” said Daynise Joseph, community impact manager for Google Fiber in Huntsville. “We’re proud to be able to support the work of local organizations working throughout this crisis to help Huntsville’s students increase technological access to ensure that everyone can take advantage of distance learning opportunities.”
