Christmas Parade takes over downtown Athens

The celebration begins with a Christmas tree lighting and caroling at 5:00 p.m. followed by the parade at 6:00 p.m.

ATHENS, Ala. — Downtown Athens gets jolly on December 3 with a Christmas tree lighting, caroling, and a parade.

The tree lighting is on the east side lawn of the historic Limestone County Courthouse. Ornaments decorated by area students will be judged and winners will be announced. 

Downtown Athens says that the theme of this year's Athens-Limestone County Christmas Parade is 'A Christmas Wish - Love, Unity, & Community.' The parade will begin at 6 p.m. on December 3rd at Athens Middle School on U.S. Highway 31 and follow the same route as previous years — west on Hobbs Street, south on Jefferson Street, east on Market Street, south on Marion Street, west on Washington Street, south on Jefferson Street and ending at the Hometown Shopping Center. 

Visitors are asked to not block streets if they arrive early for the parade and be prepared for traffic slowdowns.

The city's North Pole Stroll continues through December 31. The Stroll features tree decorated by local businesses, community groups and individual residents.

The City of Huntsville hosts a drive-in Christmas Fireworks Spectacular at Joe Davis Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Madison features a Christmas Tree Trail, with community-decorated trees, and Christmas Card Lane, which displays giant Christmas Cards. Christmas Card Lane is on Church and Front Streets in Madison.

The Downtown Florence Alliance will host the 2020 Christmas Parade of Lights, presented by Bank Independent, on Dec. 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Christmas in Decatur, with special shopping and dining events happens from Nov. 12-14.
