Athens Main Street gets $14,500 grant for Merchants Alley Renovation Project

Athens Main Street said this grant puts the total fundraising efforts for the project past $120,000.

ATHENS, Ala. — Athens Main Street received a $14,500 grant from Limestone County Legislative Delegation, which will go towards the Merchants Alley Renovation Project.

“The Limestone County Legislative Delegation gave us the funds to cross the finish line for the Merchants Alley Renovation Project,” said Athens Main Street Executive Director Tere Richardson. “We truly appreciate the support from our local legislators.”

Contributors to the grant include the following state lawmakers:

  • Sen. Tim Melson - $5,000
  • Rep. Danny Crawford - $5,000
  • Rep. Andy Whitt - $2,000
  • Sen. Tom Butler - $1,500
  • Speaker Mac McCutcheon - $1,000

Merchants Alley's grand opening date is tentatively set for November 5, 2021.

The alley, themed as "Amplify Athens," will feature a series of artwork with music at its core, according to Athens Main Street. The alley is located between Terranova's Italian Restaurant and the Athens Main Street office on North Jefferson Street in Downtown Athens.
