Artemis I: NASA's most recent mission to make it to the moon

While this rocket, called SLS, will not be launched out of Rocket City - many efforts have been made here to make this mission a reality.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — NASA has its sights on the moon and Rocket City has played a major role in making this journey to the moon a reality!

This rocket is called the SLS, which is short for the Space Launch System. It is the most powerful rocket ever and stands taller than the statue of liberty! The mission is called Artemis I and may launch as soon as late December.

Manager of SLS Systems Engineering & Integration, David Beaman says that this rocket doesn't belong to anyone specifically but more so to the community as a whole.

"We in the City of Huntsville, Madison County, North Alabama ought to be proud. We own this rocket, we're the ones developing it, in partnership with industry and the rest of the country. I think it's important from a national aspect it's been a long time since we did something this complex is detailed and this is demonstrating technical superiority," said Beaman.

Now that the city is in countdown mode - it's time to celebrate! Here's how:
