Applications are open for the W.C. Handy Music Festival Design Competition

Local artists are invited to submit their work for consideration for the festival's poster, which will be used on promotional material, souvenirs, and more.

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. — Want to see your art representing the 2021 W.C. Handy Music Festival? The winning design will be featured on the W.C. Handy Music Festival on t-shirts, posters, and other memorabilia, and in several advertising formats. The winner also receives a $500 prize. This year's festival, which runs from July 23 - August 1, has a combination of in-person and virtual events. Social distancing and other COVID safety measures will be in place.

Applications are open now for interested artists. Designs should include the W.C. Handy Music Festival name, dates (including year), primary location, and sponsor(s). Entries will be judged on merit, suitability as a visual image, originality, and how well the design reflects the spirit of the Festival. The final decision will be made by the MPS Board of Directors. Deadline for entries is June 5, 2021.

According to its website, the W.C. Handy Music Festival is a ten day, multiple event celebration occurring throughout Northwest Alabama. Festival music ranging from spirituals, to jazz and blues, and the “Muscle Shoals Sound” is performed live both indoors and outdoors.

Requirements: All entries must be of original creation, must be copyright free, and may not contain clip art in whole or in part or any other imagery designed by anyone other than Entrant(s). All entries must meet technical requirements (see below) and must be accompanied by a digital version of the design. The previous year’s winner is ineligible to enter the current year’s competition.
