MONTGOMERY, Alabama — The Alabama Senate voted on Wednesday to approve medical marijuana legislation, sending the bill to the state House of Representatives, according to the Associated Press.
AP says the Alabama Senate voted 21-8 to approve the bill, which would allow people with a qualifying condition to purchase marijuana for medical use.
If the bill passes the House, people suffering from any of 17 types of conditions, including cancer, anxiety, epilepsy, menopause, chronic pain and terminal illness, would be able to use medical marijuana with a doctor's recommendation, the AP reports.
The bill will now head to a vote by the Alabama House of Representatives.
