“Go Bulldogs! Go zero emission!” Those words got a round of applause Wednesday as Alabama A&M University unveiled the state’s first electric buses.
The university reports the transit system is now the first electric bus fleet among HBCUs in the country. The two Proterra buses shown off Wednesday are part of the first phase to replace the older diesel buses and help the environment.
AAMU is a land-grant university and their president says it’s important to be environmental leaders.
“This innovative project puts Alabama A&M University on the cutting edge and positions her as a leader in implementing green energy initiatives and reducing the carbon footprint in our environment,” said AAMU President Andrew Hugine.
AAMU plans to be a leader for other organizations to help the environment.
